What is Strange Nightmares? (How to Play)

Hello Friends,
There's a ton of hype around the game and the merch (add-ons), and today we wanted to dive deeper into how the game is actually played.
The game is divided into 4 (after a stretch goal unlock) stories: Another Dead Body, Ghost Stories, Meat the Neighbors, and Sally Face and the Temple of Doom. The official lore of Sally Face follows the stories in order from 1 to 4, but the game is designed to be able to be played in any order you'd like. If it's your first time playing, we do recommend starting with Another Dead Body, since it's the simplest setup and has the least rule changes.
In setup, you take out the basic items that will be in every game: the apartment boards, the base Mystery, Curse, and Item Decks, and the player boards, standees, and tokens. Then take out the story tuck box (another stretch goal unlock!) for the story you want to play, and lay out the story and finale cards. Shuffle in the story specific Mystery, Item, and Curse cards, and you're ready to play!

Each game plays out by reading through the Story deck and following the directions on those Story Cards. Players work together to solve mysteries and advance the story by rolling dice and placing progress cubes on Mysteries that match the corresponding dice face. It's that simple... and that difficult!

The game is all about strategy and balance. If you plan well and work as a team there's nothing you can't handle! But if you allow doubt to creep in and corruption to spread, you're doomed!
We are designing the look of Strange Nightmares to feel like the entertainment we loved growing up in the 80s and 90s, while keeping the gameplay modern for contemporary board game audiences. We can't wait for everyone to get their own copy to play!

Add-ons & Merch Pt 3 - The Tarot Deck, Plushes, and more

Let's keep talking about the add-ons!
You can check out the available add-ons on the campaign page, about 2/3rds of the way down. These add-ons will be available after the campaign ends in our pledge manager, Backerkit. All you have to do for now is back a tier, as any tier will give you access to the pledge manager. Make sure you back during the Kickstarter though, because Kickstarter backers get access to a special store with discounted prices!
If you'd like to help unlock more Stretch Goals, you can add bonus support now, which will act like a gift card in the pledge manager. Check out how to add bonus support HERE.
Now, let's talk about some more specific add-ons starting with:
The Tarot Deck! For those of you asking, yes, this is a full tarot deck of 78 cards in a fancy box. In the pictures below, the box is just a mockup and guest artist bessessen is hard at work on the cards, so we do not have the full deck to show off just yet. Check out their amazing art though! Just look at this thing!
The Plushes! Both plushes will be super soft, squeezable, fuzzy fabric and will be approximately 10 inches (25cm) in height. For those asking, here are a few more angles of what they'll look like when complete!
The Addison Tea Cup and Saucer Set! This little beauty is made of ceramic and the saucer has a diameter of 5.75 inches (14.5cm) and the teacup has a capacity of 9.5 oz (280mL). Who wouldn't want one of these amazing sets for themselves?
The Addison Tea Cup & Saucer Plastic Dice Roller/Tray! This incredible dice roller/tray set will measure 4.75 x 3.8 x 2.5 inches (cup) and 5.75 inches (tray) (12x9.7x6.3cm, 14.5cm) and will be made of sturdy plastic. The perfect dice roller for the game!

Add-ons Part 2 - Strange Boxes & Strange Occurrences Tier

We've gotten tons of questions about what Strange Boxes is, and, by association, what the Strange Occurrences Tier is. I'm here to shed some light on it!

What is Strange Boxes?
Strange Boxes is a series of subscription-style boxes that each include a t-shirt, an art print, a bonus item, and some of a series of mystery puzzles to solve. The Strange Boxes offered in the tiers (Strange Occurrences, The FULL Charley's Collection, and Strange Prototype), as well as the Strange Boxes add-on, is a special Kickstarter version of Strange Boxes. This version is delivered to backers Quarterly starting in June 2023, with the next deliveries happening in September 2023, December 2023, and March 2024. Each of these quarterly boxes will contain 3 individual boxes worth of stuff, with 3 shirts, 3 art prints, 3 bonus items, and 6-9 mystery puzzles.
Each month's art is designed by a different amazing artist including Marvel Cover Artist Peach Momoko, DC Superhero Girls Artist Agnes Garbowska, and fan artists with incredible signature styles!
Wait, Mysteries?
With each box, players are tasked to become Nockfell's best Private Eye and help solve a mystery that is plaguing the town. You’ll have to use your wits to overcome the dastardly enigmas and help unravel the mystery that is starting to overtake the town. The puzzles happen just before Sal moves to the Addison Apartments, so the mysteries act as a prequel leading up to the game.
Oh and did we mention that the puzzles are designed by Shannon McDowell? She was a member of the 2019 Red Bull Escape Room World Championship design team and puzzle master on numerous board games. You can check out some of her other stuff HERE.
What About These Bonus Items?
We don't want to spoil too much, but each month will have some fun, new item included in the box. Without spoiling too much, it could be items like a private investigator’s license, a koozie, or a Packerton apron. You won't know what you get until you open the box!

Social Goal Unlocks #2 & Social Challenge #3 Revealed

I take it you all like doing these social challenges? In 2 days you've already completed two challenge blocks! That's insane and incredible, and we all love seeing your passion and creativity as you rock through these challenges.
If you're new, we're hosting Social Goal Unlocks (or challenges), announced on here and completed over on Twitter, Instagram, and/or TikTok. When submitting on one of those platforms you just need to tag @TheMaestroTeam and @PortableMoose (@portablemoose1 on TikTok) and use the hashtag #StrangeNightmares.
Congrats to all of you who participated, together you've all unlocked these new cards for The Nightmares Deck, which is a deck of cards from the game with alternate art drawn by some amazing artists in their own signature style!

Social Goal #3
Drumroll please as we introduce Stretch Goal #3:
Good luck everyone as we need 5 people to act out moments from the game in Cosplay (it doesn't have to be "good" cosplay, just do your best with it!), 5 people need to reenact a session with Dr. Enon, 10 people need to scream at a lake, and 5 people need to "marry" a mannequin. Please keep in mind that when doing these things, please do not do anything illegal or destructive to other's (or your own) property.
The difficulty continues to ramp up, so for this one only 3 of the 4 challenges need to be completed to move on to the next level. Get to it!
